The Bund No.19 Shook Terrace

Historical background

|

This is the first building in China to install an elevator, and it is a building that bears witness to the changing times.

In 1909, China, Britain, the United States, France and other countries held the World Congress against Smoking here.

In 191, people from all walks of life in Shanghai celebrated Sun Yat-sen's inauguration as interim president.

In 1927, Chiang Kai-shek and Song Mei-ling held their engagement in this banquet hall;

In March 1936, Charlene Chaplin stayed in the then 51st room with Pauline Goldie, the modern-day heroine;

In January 1964, Zhou Enlai met French Prime Minister Edgar-Ful in the Nine Skyes Room, and a few days later, China and France announced the establishment of diplomatic relations;

In 1965, Zhou Enlai worked in Room 742.

In 1988, Jiang Zemin welcomed Mexican President Luiz-Echevilla at a banquet in the Peace Hall;

In 1996, the Joint Drug Control Agency held the "Shanghai International Competition Conference" here and established the site marker for the "World Campaign against Tobacco."

On June 30, 1998, Shanghai Mayor Xu Jindi and his wife hosted U.S. President Bill Clinton and his girlfriend, Hillary Clinton, in a banquet hall.

Similarly, it is a struggling building, formerly known as the Central Hotel, built in 1850, which is said to be the oldest foreign-owned hotel in the lease. In 1865, the Shanghai branch of HSBC was established, leased and operated until 1874, and in 1903 the Central Hotel was reorganized into the HSBC Hotel. In 1947, the Chinese merchant Daqing Company acquired the property and continued to operate the hotel. It was closed again in 1952 and did not open again until 1965, when it was converted to the south wing of the Peace Hotel. That's what we're talking about today at Bund 19. Originally, the building was designed by Scott of the Morrison Shipping Company, and the architectural style belonged to the Renaissance. And you must have only paid attention to the general appearance, not to see the specific details, then I will talk about the case of the shook terrace in this building, which will definitely make you bright.

Early stage

|

Here are some of the images we collected when we visited the field.

First of all, we see naked devices and some enclosures.

Next was the gate that had to be passed to get into the terrace. The shape of the gate was not a regular rectangle, a little like the one in a castle, with symmetrical edges and a bit of an arc above. Because the overall building is in a Renaissance style, doors like this are very suitable.

This is the landscape that can be seen in the open space on the terrace now, and the location is excellent, allowing the view of the riverside to be fully appreciated, and the sky above is blue.

The design was completed

|

From the outline of the first draft to the final completion, under Mark's leadership, the entire team devoted their hearts and souls to this project over twenty days and nights. In the end, what we delivered is not just a design solution, but a vivid work that fully aligns with the spirit of the site and far exceeds the client's expectations.

The set was finished

The base color of the bar is white, but it appears purple for environmental reasons, but it must be acknowledged that this color difference has a certain flavor.

Since the Peace Hotel only has a 9th floor terrace open, we can only see the panoramic view from this angle.

We stood in the open space of the terrace, breathing in the fresh air, admiring the lovely scenery, and quietly awaiting the arrival of night.

At a glance, a lot of things are white, and the correct use of white will make people feel more pure and feel closer to their heart.

The sky is getting darker and the lights are getting brighter. The good thing about white furniture is that it will change with the color of the light, and how colorful it is to look at.

For plants that cover the earth, we choose henna. Because it is highly adaptable, does not choose soil, and has a strong ability to tolerate drought and cold, even if it does not rain for 20 days, it will not die.

The two colors, cold and warm, are both contrasts and another form of fusion, complementing each other.

Nightfall

Notice the purple light bands on the lower steps. Do you think of the bar at the beginning that is actually white but appears purple due to environmental influences?

Why choose purple?

Not only because it's striking, but also because it is a color that gives emotional security and a bit of a dreamy meditation.

I hope that the terrace of Shook will leave you an impression like this lamp, warm and bright. Even more hopefully, this is your preferred place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. 19th Bund, we won't go away!
