After two months of effort, and taking into account the owner's special requirements and actual circumstances, we finally established a satisfactory design. In the beginning, the owners wanted to arrange a awning in the yard so they could enjoy the sun during the winter. We considered a retractable awning made of canvas, but it was weather-prone, not aesthetically pleasing and had a lot of construction restrictions. Therefore, we decided to use a more durable and aesthetically pleasing fixed awning. In addition, the design maintains the privacy and security of the courtyard, does not expose activities and better blends indoor light. Throughout the design process, we communicated with the owners many times and made adjustments, and the cycle was long. Initially, they were hesitant about the direction of the design, but we understood their concerns and adjusted according to the needs and suggestions.

The Garden of the Home

1.Space utilization

This small space is a design of a home garden, its area is relatively small。In order to make this space appreciateable, we considered several elements.First of all, we decided to dismantle the original green fence, replacing it with an aluminum alloy fence. This not only provides a form of decoration , but also plants some plants , making the whole space more beautiful .

This garden is close to the north court , so its usage may be relatively low . Yet its design is still very important because people pass by it every day . We decided to replace the green fence with an aluminum alloy background , not only because of its modern look , but also because it can be used as a background for interaction with the interior .

The design of the aluminum alloy background makes this space very modern , and the aluminum alloy plant is perfectly integrated with the aluminum alloy background . Considering the limited space, our designers pay special attention to the use of every inch of space。It's a small space but we're trying to make the most of it. 

In the process of transforming this space , we were very conscious of the choice and arrangement of the plants . By arranging and planting the plants , we make the monotonous space more diversified and serve as a background for the plants . The purpose of the design is to expand people 's sense of space , so that people will have the " whole garden mixed together " feeling .

2.Plant selection

The design of the whole space is based on the characteristics of the South Courtyard , which is a more challenging place because the whole original building faces north , the South Courtyard has relatively less light , and the client likes things with design sense . That 's why we chose some plants that like the dark and that can bloom . The end result is a beautiful and dynamic plant design that is in harmony with the overall space .

When considering plant selection , reference the client 's needs and lighting , and think about what colors and contrasts will create the desired atmosphere .

3.Increase hardening area

When designing a home garden to make it look bigger, we can consider some strategies。First of all, you can increase the area of the pavement to expand the sense of space. However , we also need to be careful to avoid over-paving , which can create a heat island effect and lead to problems with accessibility . Therefore , in addition to paving , you can consider using some plants with air purification function , such as panda corydalis and so on , to improve the air quality .

In addition , we can also use weather-resistant steel planting pool , and cleverly use the design on the facade to create a sense of space . With these strategies we can create beautiful gardens that are spacious and comfortable even with limited space .

North House

1.Problems with the aesthetics of a light well

When designing the courtyard, the designer saw two symmetrical light wells。There was no clear idea at the time of the design of the scheme as to how to arrange the extraction wells.Later, due to the consideration of plant habits, they decided to plant plants with the ability to adapt to the desert environment. This not only beautifies the daylight well but also does not affect the daylighting effect .

In choosing the right plants , they also took into account future drainage possibilities . The overall design also takes into account factors such as symmetry and decoration , making the plant design more ingenious .

In addition , they avoid excessive moisture to prevent the plant from growing too fast . All in all , the plant design of this courtyard is very carefully designed , taking into account both aesthetics and practicality .

2.Resolving customer complaints

The owner wants his yard to be easy to maintain。For this problem, if we choose to harden large areas, this may bring a strong hardened feeling to the yard, which has the feel of a farmhouse compound.Therefore, we designed an interlayer treatment method , through the appropriate hardening design and green layout, so that the yard is convenient to manage and maintain the appearance.

We chose suitable materials and colors, and used plants such as stepping stones and panda corydalis, which solved the problem of easy growth and high maintenance costs of embedded turf。The client was very aware of her needs and wanted the transformed yard to be fun and aesthetically pleasing, while avoiding the monotony of the original space.

In the design , we based on the customer 's needs and professional knowledge to choose the grass turf and layering treatment , thus creating a practical and beautiful yard .

3.Multifunctional steel frame swing

In the beginning we considered the layout of the courtyard and had a problem to solve, which was how to use the space rationally. Especially in a location with better lighting in the summer, the customer wanted to place a large area for drying quilts, but also wanted to provide a swing for people to enjoy and relax.

So we designed a multi-functional steel frame swing, which can not only be used to dry quilts, but also as a swing equipment。In this way, we can make full use of the limited courtyard space and achieve a beautiful effect.

We believe that this design is both practical and beautiful , and can meet people 's needs , whether it is to dry clothes or swing , can make full use of this space .

4.Leisure space creation

We designed this courtyard with a number of factors in mind。While it initially looked like a square yard, we realised that a normal yard might not be quite right for the client's needs.We wanted the yard to be both maintenance-friendly and aesthetically pleasing, so we chose the right hardening material to reduce the lawn area and maintenance costs.

We also added stepping stones and panda cress plants to fill the space , creating a natural beauty .

In designing the courtyard gate , we considered both indoor and outdoor access needs , while meeting privacy and accessibility requirements . And we noticed that gardeners may have problems with the inconvenience of maintaining the yard , so we chose a solid and invisible frame material To solve this problem . In general , our design considers both practicality and aesthetics , making the courtyard easy to maintain and at the same time satisfying the client 's needs .

5.Garden pavilion design

The pavilion was designed to create an event space and provide shade in the garden . In the summer, the strong sun can be a nuisance to garden activities, so we have specifically considered shading。We chose a design with a sunshade function, which effectively blocks the direct sunlight through the structure of the pavilion and the roof, making the garden activities more comfortable and pleasant.

In addition to the sunshade function, we are also very concerned about the overall aesthetic of the garden。We added some garden elements to the design, in order to enrich the appearance of the space。These landscape elements include flowers and small ponds , which blend with the pavilion in a natural way to create a charming and colorful garden landscape .

In the choice of trees, we wanted to give the landscape after the pavilion a more natural and wild feeling。Therefore, we selected a tree with a more wild shape, which is in harmony with the garden design and brings a lively feeling to the whole space.

This kind of plant selection can enhance the natural atmosphere of the garden and create a more harmonious and comfortable environment。In the overall design, we strive to maintain the square style, which matches the structure of the pavilion and the layout of the garden.

For the water feature , we added some curves and ovals to enhance the aesthetic . These curves and oval shapes add variation and interest to the overall space while creating a harmonious visual experience .

Through this design , our goal is to create a beautiful garden space that is both private and provides good shade . We wanted this space to be more than just a casual hangout, but also a place that was aesthetically pleasing and comfortable。The pavilion in the garden can not only provide a shelter for the residents from the sun and rain, but also allow them to feel the wonderful visual enjoyment in the process of interacting with nature.

6.Space Making

We first made some changes to the original space according to the customer's request. Besides, how should we, as designers, create this space?

On one side of the garden , for example , we used flowerpots and hedges . Flower tiles add a modern touch to the whole space, while green hedges provide a green backdrop to the garden。We chose boxwood as the hedge plant, because its leaves are dense and delicate, and have good privacy。We wanted the private garden to look greener, so we made a lot of formal changes to the design.

In addition , we also considered the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces , allowing residents to feel the beauty of the outdoors , especially at night , through elements such as light and water reflections .

The design of the wall also takes into account the atmosphere of the room, using aluminum alloy fencing to protect the activity space, while adding a modern sense to the whole space。The design of the garden also acts as a good foil in the background of the building.All in all, we have fully considered the customer's needs in the design and provided more functions and aesthetics.
